Spring 2013 fashion weeks give solace to those of us mourning the loss of summer. Sure, I can start wearing scarves again, but what will I do without neon for the next six months? (Just kidding, I’ll still wear it.) NYFW will continue for the next few days, but I wanted to give you the details of what has appeared thus far and what is best for your apparel sales.
Chevron & Corsets
Rodarte showcased an intricate mix of texture and detail. Most of the pieces featured chevron angles and flowy skirts (flowy continues to be a big trend in imprinted wearables). Rodarte replaced standard spring florals with leafy greens and branches. Interesting textured elements like fringe, jewels and corsets also graced the runway.
Colorful Suiting & Floral Sweaters
J. Crew has secretly been high-fashion for a long time. The retail chain famous for staples like pencil skirts, button-downs and blazers has been adding chic amendments every season. Spring 2013 continues its aspiration. The line had Peter Pan collars, white suiting, pastel pink and vibrant orange. Things to look out for in this industry: patterned corporate wear and floral sweaters. Also shown were short suits. Though inappropriate for most office settings, they look really good on the runway.
Glamorous Baby Dolls
Alice + Olivia to me always looks like 60’s glamour for the contemporary chick. Baby doll dresses reminiscent of Twiggy, vampy gold that recalls Elizabeth Taylor’s Cleopatra and pop pieces that bring Andy Warhol to mind. This line also did something wonderful for any supplier that sells belt buckles: Oversized belts completed almost every ensemble. The line also showed stripes and polka dots as basics (perfect for corporate wear and tees).
Color Watch: Aqua, cantaloupe, lavender and peach seem to be the colors of spring 2013, with Rodarte, J. Crew and Alice + Olivia showing them. The colors work for men and women and look good on T-shirts, suits, dress shirts and accessories.
